Florida Population Has Boomed by More than 319k Residents

According to the Census Bureau, Florida has seen a +1.9% population increase from 2017 to 2021. That is the highest net change for any state in the Union. Florida is doing it right!

With all it's natural wonders, beauty as well as it's people, it is no wonder why Florida has become a popular choice among many Americans. Florida's warm climate, beautiful beaches and exciting nightlife are just some of the reasons why so many people have chosen to move here.

But with the influx of people comes one big problem - the sun! The intense rays coming off the hot Florida sunshine can cause a lot of discomfort and sun damage, both in and out of the car. Fortunately, there is an easy way to protect yourself from UV rays while still enjoying life in Florida – window tinting!

Naples Tint welcomes the 319,000 new residents calling the sunshine state home. Allow us to share the secret to tolerating the scorching sun, all while enjoying all Florida has to offer.

Window Tint Benefits

First, let's talk about the business end of window tint. At first glance, it may appear to simply add privacy for the occupants of the car, truck or SUV. And you would be right. However, the benefits go much deeper than that. Window tint helps reduce glare, blocking out up to 99% of harmful UV rays and also keeps your car much cooler throughout the day. It also enhances the look of your car giving it a classy, professional feel – no matter if you’re driving an old clunker or a sleek new automobile.

Most cars that come from out of state never have had tint on them. But being a Floridian, it is almost mandatory for your vehicle, as the sun is relentless even during the winter months.

Like with any product, there are many variants and varieties of window film. There are basic films that are dyed, and offer some heat rejection, but still offer the UV protection you need. If you wan that radiant heat to be minimized, we suggest you look into ceramic window films. These films will offer the best in heat protection as well as UV protection. No matter which way you go, any of the options will improve the comfort and look of your car, truck or SUV.

Depending on your budget, Naples Tint can help you find which tint works best for you.

Window Tint Laws in Florida

Naples Tint wants to be sure you know the laws in Florida regarding tinting your vehicle. How dark can you tint your car? What is "legal" vs "too dark"? The term used in the law is "VLT" which means volume of light transmission. This means how much percentage of light the film will allow to pass through the glass. Darker window films will allow less. These can be measured by a simple meter that a tint shop will have (as well as law enforcement!).

Currently, the Florida Tint Laws are as follows:

  • Front Side Windows: No less than 28% VLT

  • Rear Side Windows: No less than 15% VLT passenger cars, 6% MPV (SUV, bus, etc)

  • Rear Windows: No less than 15% VLT passenger cars, 6% MPV (SUV, bus, etc)

  • Windshield: Clear film strip to the A1 line on the glass

The state of Florida does allow medical exemptions to these laws. If you needed the film to be darker, you would simply request a medical exemption and take it to Naples Tint to install the film.

You will not need to be a lawyer or even a window film expert to be sure you are within the legal limits. Naples Tint will navigate the right product for your car to be sure you are within the legal limits. This is what we do every day!

Can You Tint the Windshield?

In the state of Florida, windshields cannot be tinted. However, the statute does state "transparent tint" can be applied. What does this mean? A strip of non-tinted film may be applied to the top of the windshield above the manufacturer's A1 line. This will not only help with glare, but also aid in preventing damage from rocks and other debris that could hit your windshield while driving.

To keep up the heat rejection, there are special clear window films that can be applied to windshields that offer the benefits of window tint, but never making the windshield darker - keeping you legal.

At Naples Tint, our highly trained professionals are well versed in Florida's window tint laws and statutes. We are dedicated to helping you find the perfect solution for your car and needs - legally, of course!
